By the end of this one you'll know what risk actually means with money, why bigger rewards and bigger risks always travel together, and what spreading things out really does.
Risk just means the chance that things turn out different than you hoped, including losing some or all of the money. Farming runs on this exact math. Plant one crop in one field and you might have the best year of your life, or one hailstorm takes everything. Plant corn in one field, beans in another, and keep some hens besides, and now no single storm can wipe you out, that's what spreading risk means, and the old saying about not putting all your eggs in one basket was farm talk long before it was money talk. Here's the trade nobody escapes, the safest looking choices grow the slowest and the fast growing choices can shrink just as fast, risk and reward are two ends of the same rope. So when somebody offers big rewards with no risk, they're hiding something, out here we'd go check their trailer for a stolen horse. The goal was never zero risk, the goal is knowing exactly how much weather you're standing in before you plant.

In an insured savings account, meaning a government program called FDIC pays you back up to a set limit if the bank itself fails, the realistic year end range is about 100 to 104.
In a broad stock fund, a basket holding little pieces of hundreds of companies, real past years have turned 100 into anywhere from about 80 to about 130.
And in one tiny risky coin or one struggling company, real people have seen 100 become 300 and real people have seen it become nearly zero, that's the rope stretched all the way out.
The cousin group chat is on fire tonight over a tiny coin that jumped 40 percent this week. Two cousins are already in, one swears he doubled his money, and now everyone is waiting to see what you do.
